Did you know that palm sugar is one of the largest commodities in Banten? Palm sugar is one of Indonesia's original products and is exported to other countries. However, most of the exported products are still in raw form. According to the Bogor Food Institute (2017), most palm sugars in the Banten area are produced in the Lebak district with 81%. Apart from that, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, also supports the export of processed palm sugar and conveyed at the Opening Ceremony of the 2023 Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) XVIII RAKERNAS at Nusantara Hall Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang, Banten, Thursday (31/08/2023).

"Don't let the raw materials be exported continuously and shall be industrialized domestically. So, the job opportunities would be more available, and we would get added value so that the country would also get it later. If added value appears, the country will get it, and state revenues will automatically increase." said the President

According to Tempo News Jakarta, palm sugar is convertible into other products such as sweet soy sauce and mung bean porridge. In addition, exportable palm sugar products are liquid and granulated palm sugar. It's better than exporting lumps of palm sugar because its value will increase. Both syrup and processed palm sugar are directly consumable in beverage products such as coffee. The potential of palm sugar is relatively more common than other sugar. This sweetener can replace other sweeteners because it does not contain chemicals and is low in calories.
